How a great narrative can help you to IPO?

Building Community
Remember the Facebook movie?
Published at the end of 2010.
Budget: $40m.
Box: $225m.
Followed by a $1.5B round in 3 months.
And an IPO in 1 year.

Maybe you even remember that the name of the movie was "The Social Network" 😜 And folks just have nailed the industry term and the logo to the Facebook brand.

More examples of personal brands?
  • Bill Gates
  • Steve Jobs
  • Elon Musk
  • Lee Iacocca
  • Jack Welch
  • Warren Buffett

More examples of pumping whole industries?
Pirates of Silicon Valley: published in June 1999, NASDAQ pumped x2 for 8 months after.
Silicon Valley series: published in 2014-2019, the VC market pumped x2.3 in 6 years (x1.7 faster than before the series).

Broader examples?
  • Holy Bible
  • Post-WWII Germany
  • USSR communist movies and art

People love stories. It's easy to remember and to pass along the way.

People love stories about other people being heroes & humans, with ups&downs, unique characters, etc.

If your company doesn't have a solid narrative — you'll become a commodity and lose pricing power and attention.

Make a movie or a book about yourself or your business. Build a fantastic narrative about how a person passed through the circumstances, overcame challenges, and became a hero.
